The inspiration for the event came from the bludgeoning distressed debt in the country, and the proposal, at a national level, on having a centralised AMC on the style of (the-then) Danaharta of Malaysia, or Kamco of Korea. We wanted thought leaders to engage in a meaningful discussion on whether there is need to emerge beyond the structure of private-incentive-driven ARCs that we have currently, and take a hard look at real proportions of the problem of sticky loans. Concerted, centralised approach, rather than let-the-lender-handle-it approach, seems to have worked in similar situations in other countries.
